Get to know GCSMPS member Kristin DeBord, Marketing Manager with Schaefer.
The Society of Marketing Professionals has been active since 1973 and is growing rapidly. What made you want to get involved with the organization?
My boss brought me to an event within my first month at Schaefer. He encouraged me to get involved – what you put in, you get out. It grew my network + helped me build relationships with clients we work with, but it also forced me out of my comfort zone, helping me to grow personally + professionally.
What has been the biggest benefit for you, personally or professionally, with being involved with SMPS?
Education plays a major role in SMPS and the success of its members, what’s one of the greatest things you’ve learned being involved with the society?
When you’re not working or volunteering, how do you like to spend your free time?
I’m a huge reader. When I was little, we used to go to the library every Saturday. Now, I still use the library, but download to my Kindle, and might take a little longer than a week to finish it. I read most genres + love a book recommendation.
Cincinnati has a lot of unique and charming characteristics, what’s your favorite thing about the city?
I love a good festival and Cincinnati is not short on them. I always look forward to Taste of Cincinnati, Panegyri, Days in the Park + honestly any other festival I can talk my family + friends into attending with me.

From the President
Good afternoon, All,
This week leaves us all with a heavy heart as we reckon with systemic injustice. There is a little that I can say that was not already said best by our SMPS President, Melissa Lutz. So I will repeat her words here:
"We share in the pain, sadness, and countless other emotions that our members are experiencing. Now is the time for us to be present and stand alongside one another.
We acknowledge the inequality and social injustice that persists.
Now is unimaginably difficult for many of us. There has never been a better time to show empathy—to reach out to a client, coworker, or colleague—and simply listen.
The leadership that our members exemplify within their firms now and in the future has the power to greatly impact our industries and communities.
We encourage everyone to engage in the necessary conversations to help move us forward. We are committed to being part of the solution."
Locally, the GCSMPS Chapter is currently working to create educational opportunities for our members to learn how we can be the change we want to see in the workplace. We will share more details as they are confirmed.

In April, SMPS HQ asked for feedback from members about keeping Build Business in August or moving it to the fall. Based on survey results and the venue’s capacity restrictions for August, a change has been made.
Build Business 2020 will now be held from October 8–10, 2020, in Austin, TX.
